Homemade Pumpkin Pies

We got a pumpkin from a friend. It is too early to save it for Halloween, so we decided to make pies because we have never made pumpkin pies before. Even Penelope helped by breaking the eggs into a bowl. She did very good, no shells at all.

Here is part of the cut up pumpkin. We steamed half of it and roasted the other have to compare the flavors of each technique.
 Here is the pumpkin puree.

Here is the juicy pie slowly baking in the oven.
And finally here is four of the finished products. We ended up with eight pies! Its a good thing we have family and friends around that will help take them off our hands.(of course we kept two, one roasted and one steamed to test!)
They turned out great.  Even though Zachary only gave them a B + he still took a whole pie home to share with Grandma V. Penelope had a lot of fun making them and we have a  pumpkin growing in our garden, so we will be making more shortly. Next time were going to try some pumpkin bread and muffins.
